house heaven on 12-inch. a lofty description, but one that fits most excellent unlimited’s latest offering perfectly. in 1990, boy george and simon rogers (the fall) made a record called “generations of love” for george’s post-culture club project, jesus loves you. legendary nyc dj and producer bruce forest was one of several big names brought in to do a set of remixes, and the better days veteran got to work on several contrasting versions of the cut. the mixes heard here, done at london’s famed olympic studios, are slices of utter ecstasy for anyone who has a taste for ‘90s deep house euphoria and ambient dancefloor excursions, but were unfortunately lost amongst the countless alternate mixes. suffice to say, meu is taking matters into our own hands and has remastered and properly packaged these tracks, directly sourced from forest himself, with the full intention to give this erstwhile dollar-record the respect it deserves. the jazz mix opens with a winding piano solo by andy whitmore (spandau ballet, terence trent d’arby, soul ii soul) that lures the listener into a hypnotic groove that could quite comfortably go on forever but here is constrained by our modesty and the 12-inch format. (a tip for the adventurous dj: flipped to 33rpm the tune becomes an epic balearic chugger, a late-night psylocibic alternative for the heads.) the synth-heavy sounds of the ambient mix on the flip side harken back to the chill-out rooms of the ‘90s but twenty-some years later bring the best kind of vintage charm.

systemrmx01 is our first full remix release consisting of five tracks reworked from any of the previous releases. we took a unique approach on this project and made all parts from all tracks available to mix and match as the artists saw fit. heavy hitters ben sims, dustin zahn, and drumcell all contributed great interpretations. enjoy!

swiss artist and veteran producer ripperton contacted the esp institute out of the blue mid-2017 to share a gorgeous mix of self-produced material, a collection of pieces made without any agenda outside of representing the self, not geared toward the dancefloor or a specific environment but simply a bi-product of introspective exploration. we were floored, the mix was on constant repeat in our world for weeks, then was subsequently pulled apart into separate titles to form this beautiful double lp, ripperton’s debut with the label. the title sight seeing speaks of someone stepping outside their current reality to look in the mirror, as if to ground themselves and keep sight of who they are in a world of extreme highs and lows. inspired greatly by expansive landscapes and views from airplane windows (imagine your commute flying over the alps every weekend), ripperton describes this collection as postcards to himself, messages from his subconscious recorded on tape (both conceptually and literally), melancholy soundtracks to the mondays that follow weekend journeys. while musical genres tend to cycle through bandwagon moments, the esp institute strives to operate independently of these, and while sight seeing is undoubtably an ambient album, we’re simply proud to revel in the chance moment where an esteemed artist such as ripperton spreads his wings in a beautifully unexpected mode of expression.

from the knowledge gained on our expeditions, we are able to track down the jets fired during each unique eruption and share them with the people of this majestic orb.
the first squirt led us to the yard in hackney, where ross from friends performed live for one of the first few times in his already sparkling career.
>from the performance came a track called ‘champagne’, a wave of sax washing over you accompanied by plinking guitar and of course those fuzzy hi hats that go right to your head.
this track could previously only be experienced by seeing the trio play live or by watching our documentation of the performance, until now.
we’ve printed 300 copies only of this vintage moment from the summer of 2016.

after playing lovestar to death we reached out to see if sebastien was still feeling in an emotional mood. we discovered quickly that, in fact, this is where his creative heart lives and breathes. the two tracks featured here were conjured up (in a daydream we like to believe) in time to play out at all the summer closing events in the usa and on be tvs coverage at the bpm festival and our south american tour. already loved. already track id d and already to create more magical moments. enjoy!

we open 2018 with a soulful and fluffy masterpiece by the italian genius broke one. musically located somewhere in between max graef, 4hero and clifford gilberto -this thing called reality- is a perfect example for the successful marriage of jazz, soul and house. the narrative and highly elaborated 4-tracker, once again pressed on 555 individually colored vinyls, pushes the wonky-house-benchmark a little higher. in beautifully diversified arrangements broke interweaves deep and jazzy soundspheres with clubby, high energetic sections – a 12&#8243,,, multi-purpose tool for club use and home application. bigbait027 is the last edition of our random-color series. each of the 555 records is individually colored, colors tend from orange to yellow, shift between blue, red, green and white.

all aboard the super tuff 003! this vinyl only v/a sails from the brooklyn docks at dawn. walking up the gangplank first is our lead cartographer, australias dj heure, carrying the blueprints for ra-ia tropical, ambient cut that grows into a swell of birdsongs and synthesizer swells. stoking the coals in the boiler room is hot coffee, a richmond based producer who fires up on the verge for his vinyl debut. the aggressive and furiously anthemic tune pushes the ep past rough seas and sails us safely through the night. as morning arrives on the b-side, ship captain m. vaughan throws a life-raft overboard with the chugging, yet delicate man to man. and with time running out for the motley crew, austrian navigator tilman sets his compass for the sunset, keeping morale soaring with a day to remember ia finale track brimming with beautiful rhodes work and tender spoken words.

following a succesfull 2016 with his well received eps golden tides,sunlit forest and one of our fave releases bahia, joe offers up four cuts for pleasure unit. continuing the producers passion for new age , paradasical ambience and dreamy deep house,lead title -jacaranda skies- might be what telephones and met mr heard would of sounded like had they met in rimini circa 91. a dusky atmosphere provides the backdrop to ecstacy inducing chords,an elevated brass sequence and afro percussion driving a tight groove. mangrove dawn is an aural quaalude hit, gentle synth washes fold over each other,while nature sounds buzz through a distant 303. the lost garden opens to a reverb soaked slide guitar and soaring pad section before a jaguar snarl gives way to subtle kick pattern atop m1 chimes and bali bells. skies reprise closes off the ep with a beatless take on the original, the melodies given more space the sonic equivalent of open air swaying under hazy pink skies.

lvis mejía s newest project, titled anthropology of amnesia is an acousmatic essay addressing our utter necessity to remember in the face of existential oblivion, an innate behaviour of the human race. presented as a 33 minute long continuous composition, anthropology of amnesia unrolls as a series of chapters, the contemplative character of the piece opening a particular frame within the listening experience, where lvis mejía attempts to convey the phenomenon of the collective consciousness through the cultural traces we leave behind. mejía s takes the idea of -one species, one culture, one past- and places it at the center of the concept of the piece. anthropology of amnesia examines a number of interpretations of rituals, orchestrations, chants, synthesis and field recordings - nestled within the piece are recordings of animals, fire, water and a human heart - the sum of these sonic identities incidentally reshaping their roots. the diversity of the sonic sources highlights the comparative study element of mejía s work yet the common thread remains the human experience, recorded stories and the viva voce.

doi records begins with ‘lightnesses’, two long-form recordings from the studio of composer and sound artist, william doyle, formerly known as east india youth. delivering two blissful, near thirty-minute takes across limited edition tape and digital formats, lightnesses is a sound experiment that pays tribute to the original ideas of ‘ambient music’, while nudging our expectations of the form.
emerging accidentally from unauspicious circumstances, lightnesses evolved during the recording of an as-yet unfinished album, when the coda of one track spiralled out into infinity in one long but ever-evolving drone, constantly shifting in form.

following a red letter release in the form of joe armon-jones & maxwell owin s idiom, yam recordings return with the second installment of their you and music compilation series, this time compiled by yam fam hollick & z lovecraft. kicking things off on the a side is native cruise, a new artist hollick has been working extensively with on no bad days, bringing that signature ‘floaty yet punchy’ sound. it’s a kwaito-esque club jam with pan flutes and percussive loops bringing that energy to the start of the record. will listers sunset over st. petets spire is up next with a hypnotising yet intricate production from the hugely promising talent. will is a dude very much affiliated with yam and, of course, our pals over at balamii radio so it only seemed natural to have him on the record. that melody is a proper ear-worm too! the b side, curated by z lovecraft, is a slightly tougher affair with three tracks representing his taste in soulful sounds and expands on his a&r work for rhythm section international. first up is rouge me&#769,,chaniques prisma ltd a 7-minute psychedelic drum odyssey showcasing the multi instrumentalists many talents and influences, with guitar overdubs and flute ambience taking the dance floor far and beyond. on b2, upcoming break beat talent, lt, takes the helm with gale force. hailing from the peak district, lt makes work of deep vocal pads, 606 touches and a killer bass line. finishing off the compilation is wholemeal musics boy wonder, dear earth, who conjures a charming hip-hop ditty with his delicate assemblage style.

were super excited to present the latest artist to join the dirt crew stable, french producer sekou babe. he ticked all the right boxes for us with this beautiful debut ep foresight prevents blindness which explores his fresh and vibey outlook on house with sideways glances to smokey jazz, breaks and garage. the a-side lines up three varied tunes. perspectives of the youth and soukoun step in quickly with lively breakbeat rhythms. the first boasting warm soul vocals and steady bass groove, the second a melancholic yet uplifting back and forth between vintage piano and warbling rhodes. treize zero zero trois is a deep and dreamy house jam. cinematic elements infused with punchy percussion and 80s sonic touches add up to good times all round. on the b, our good friend nachtbraker does what he does best, flipping treize zero zero trois bringing the deep, dubby amsterdam vibrations. his version is lush, textural and slightly fruity, with surging synths, tropical percussion and a stomping kick. sekou babe rounds things off with the extravagant crown collection, showing us yet another colour in his musical spectrum. its trip hop meets detroit where warped strings introduce shuffling drums before the track begins to build layering subtle arpeggios, smooth pads, crash hits and a buoyant melody. sekou babe would like to add that all tracks were written and produced by b.b. at 7e republique studio and says thanks to peter, ghizlene, mohammed and florian, you beautiful souls.

cosmic handshakes sees the pairing of 2 extremely talented detroit natives - blair french & todd modes - who take elements of disco, techno, jazz, house, afrobeat, latin music, dub and electronics and filter them through their own unique view of dance music. steeped in soul, live instrumentation, sampling and analogous alchemical studio processes, french & modes give us an exhilarating and fresh take on the deepest smoked out, after hours sounds of the city of detroit. in the mist is the duo s second release, following on from 2013 s the delicate details , released on the m1 sessions imprint. the last 2-3 years has seen the pair individually release music on a plethora of varied and esteemed global labels such as fit sounds, claremont 56, rocksteady discos and more. we at gghq are very excited to finally share with the world what we feel is hands down one of our favourite releases yet. a compelling body of work from front to back, the tracks on in the mist work perfectly as a self contained home listener, or as we ve found, just as well on a darkened dancefloor, leaving the choice up to you, the listener.

iron curtis has felt like a polytone artist for quite a while now. he recently delivered a breathtaking remix for matthias vogt, and shared a split ep with the man himself, terrence dixon. hes also played several label nights, but indeed unwind is his first very own ep on polytone. the opening track riders is our floor filler here. a subsonic bass experience of the more intensive kind. its a pure groover, with a surprisingly long lasting breakdown that never lacks on intensity. cream on the a2 is a stellar ambient joint, with rhythmic elements and cosmic pads. on the flip we have the title track, unwind, with an unconventional basic groove, bleepy touches and trademark 707 drum machine sounds. pure and stunning deepness. the final track is a remix from force/emerge and leads unwind into techno territory. polytone stands for diversity, and again demonstrates the labels vision of versatility here.

once again we are sending a new release of acoustic signals from the collectively-run kindergarten at berlins east cross. after a techno focus on the last release, this one is a bit more melodic and housey. with “hot lies,” egon elliut contributes a well-crafted house track, newly revised in the “zkb taking the bus version” by one of our current favorite producers, zk bucket. with lots of love for detail, it’s a real pleasure. perel is no stranger to ://about blank. for years she has convinced us with her fantastic live sets, as a dj, she is just as grounded. “opal” sounds exactly like that — a shimmering, contemporary version of disco, an album on dfa is coming soon! our resident jessamine is releasing his first track ever on this mini compilation— rough and warm, with a touch of the 80’s in sound design, “more love later” has become a beautiful, harmonious and melodic love slider—suitable more for the later club hours. more love later!

bbe are excited to present the first in a new series of strictly limited 7” pressings exploring some of the most iconic house tracks of all time, as chosen by dj spinna and kai alce. with global interest in ‘45s on the rise, ‘foundations’ aims to fill those frustrating gaps in all our collections by releasing specially crafted edits of classic house tracks on 7” vinyl for the very first time. part one of the ‘foundations’ series celebrates chicago producer cajmere’s early masterpiece ‘brighter days’ featuring dajae. best known in recent years by his ‘green velvet’ moniker, curtis jones has been blazing a trail through house and techno since launching his cajual imprint back in ’91. reaching #2 on billboard’s dance chart in 1992, ‘brighter days’ was cajmere’s breakthrough hit and continues to educate and inspire producers, djs and dancers to this day.

dixon avenue basement jams feel extremely honoured and stupidly excited to finally be able to announce this! after his first three eps on the label, the much talked about debut album from glasgows big miz is ready to drop on dixon avenue basement jams! from start to finish build/destroy really showcases his effortless feel for the weird funk. from the tweaked out organ solos on hammond groove and the live bass jam of straight thru cru to the straight up brain rattler of gear tension. this is big miz at his undiluted best and cements the fact that he is one of the uks most exciting raw talents. 2018 move aside, the big man has already owned ya.

fist & shout is the debut release from glasgow band leatherette - currently now known as total leatherette - and the first to be released on domestic exile. recorded at the now infamous green door studios, the album is a raw, visceral interpretation of instrumental post-punk, no wave, drone and industrial, complete with a fully immersive and foreboding gothic atmosphere.

initially the music by the knob, the finger & the it was conceived as some sort of ritual background ambient during extensive electroacoustic picnics by the river or in the fields. in the course of these sessions, the knob, the finger & the it make use of battery powered miniature electronics, diy synths and acoustic bricolage, which mingle with the sounds of the open space: some wind, a crackling campfire, a train passing by over a bridge nearby...

this has always been a rare 12inch originally only released in the uk in 1979, phoenix was considered to be too disco at the time and the release pretty much sank without trace - one reason why finding those original uk 12inches is near on impossible these days. just 2 copies on discogs and a mint one will be circa £50 if you re ever lucky enough to find one. however, since 1979 phoenix has grown in stature and what was once considered to be a twee disco tune has now become a huge collector s item and a staple in the right clubs. no surprise really as this is norman connors at the top of his game and the production is red-hot. how phoenix never made it to 12inch vinyl in the u.s. is one of the great mysteries of life but here it is on beautiful fresh 12inch vinyl some 38 years later. as with all our 12inch re-issues we ve replicated the original label. luckily there are no bootlegs to contend with on this release, so this is the first re-issue of this song since the original release date, so order with confidence

a true holy grail from the cloud one catalog, dont let my rainbow pass me by is the third of a string of titles on golden flamingo produced by the p&p duo of patrick adams and peter brown and featuring vocals from guardian angel singer margot williams. similar to previous cloud ones productions, this record had all the elements of a patrick adams classic, but with vocal arrangements that foreshadowed the work he would do with inner life and jocelyn brown at salsoul. perhaps not so much of a concidence then that margot williams would provide backing vocals on inner lifes second and final album. even though it was originally released in 1981, dont let my rainbow pass me by is still championed by high-profile deejays today. over the years, its been notably sampled in basement jaxxs romeo and covered by todd terje and prins thomas in reinbagan as a dub-disco cut. available for the first time since its original release, our only piece of advise is to don’t let this classic pass you by.

for the inaugural release, regular to lobster theremin, rhythm section and distant hawaii, hidden spheres introduces the sonic flora of his enchanted new world by way of “wonders of the rainforest”. an ep that both details the multifaceted skills of one of mcr s most treasured recent upstarts whilst paying tribute to an environment that, although a million miles away from our concrete jungle, seems more relevant than ever due to the impending threat of climate change and our critical-level resource drain.
